Masala Imports was founded in 2003 by Naomi and Ray. Masala Raks Dance Studio followed in 2004. Our love of travel, music, and dance has always inspired our collection of costumes and imports. Based out of Santa Cruz, California our store quickly became known as The Belly Dance Shop, with amazing support from the Santa Cruz dance community.

     Over the years we have established many wonderful contacts in Egypt, Morocco, India and Thailand. We strongly believe in supporting fair trade and our inventory reflects that. Please visit our links section under charities to view some wonderful organizations that need support.

     With an addition to our family in 2007 we have transitioned Masala Imports to an online shop, but we continue to maintain the Mom and Pop aspect of our business that we are known for.

Masala Raks Dance studio is now the location of the Pleasure Point Fitness and Dance Studio owned and operated by Janelle of the Desert Dream Dance Company.

We still attend many dance festivals in California and when our little one is not so little we will resume our travels bringing back many treasures to share.
